Hstory of a passion: Breeding!

After working as a miner in Moselle for five years, Philippe DERU, passionate about livestock farming, decided to pursue a master's degree in livestock farming in Haroué (Meurthe et Moselle). After completing various internships, he and Jean Loup Michel and his mother Thérèse set up a farm at the Gaec d'Izé (Haute Marne) in 1988.

From 1992, the partners of the Gaec decided to develop an activity geneticThe beginning of an experience that would lead breeding to success, with cows like Juliette, Indienne, Novy Griffe, Novy Jude, Ami Olga, etc. An experience that would reach its apotheosis in 2000 with the dispersal sale of the Gaec d'Izé herd. This experience as a breeder led Philippe to reflect on the selection and longevity of animals.

"What's the point of trying to get good cows if you can't keep them?"

Indeed, "to select means to choose, whereas too often reforms are not the breeder's choice, but are imposed under the effect of health or environmental constraints."

"Ph. DERU helps your cows age well."

At the origin of the creation of this company, some simple thoughts from Philippe DERU after his experience as a breeder within the Gaec d'Izé (52):

  • THE comfort is an element of productivity.
  • THE comfort is a factor influencing the lifespan of a dairy cow.
  • THE comfort is comparable to a form of Well-Being, in a healthy environment (without injuries or trauma).
  • THE comfort can be obtained with simple equipment, capable of adapting to the animal and reproducing the natural environment.

“Know-how and Innovation: Our vision.”

Animal movement, bedding, arrangement of sages, ventilation... are all seemingly trivial details that make the difference between farms, with the key to improved profitability in favor of well-designed buildings.

Ph. Deru's objective is clearly to strengthen its specialization in the supply of positive products and technologies for the comfort of cattle in buildings.

The birth of Ph.DERU

Its passion for genetics had taken him to Canada, a country of breeders if ever there was one, but with harsh breeding conditions. He returned with innovative ideas regarding aspects of breeding management such as the use of rubber mats in the aisles of the stables.

The Canadian climate puts extreme demands on materials. Philippe Deru believes that if the results are good in such conditions, they should be even more conclusive here.

In 2001, he began his partnership with the ANIMAT company and distributes Interlock carpets and Animatelas in France. Then in 2003, he decided to create his own company, EURL Ph. DERU, and to go beyond the simple sale of carpets by offering advice on building design, by developing other partnerships such as with the Canadian company SECCO for ventilation, or by developing specific products such as Logistics .

Monitoring until acceptance of the work

Since its inception, the company has experienced strong growth. Every month, four or five teams lay more than 0325010499 m² of floor mats. Interlock or Animatelas in French farms. One or two teams are specialized in the installation of the products of ventilation and a team is responsible for the range" Food".

Beyond simply selling products, Philippe Deru is pleased to see that the concept of service is bearing fruit. With the integration of a transport department within the EURL, the breeder is constantly in contact with the company's employees, from the moment the order is placed to the moment the finished project is handed over.

A technical center has been strengthening the company for some time now for the development of new projects, the design of building plans and technical support to teams on the land.

Listening to the field

For Philippe, knowing how to listen and understand the expectations of breeders on a daily basis, observing cows in their natural environment, allows for improvements to existing products or even innovation in certain areas if necessary.

In a spirit of progress and service, Philippe DERU has surrounded himself with business partners. Technicians with solid professional experience and backgrounds in agriculture.

They bring expertise and know how to listen to the problems caused by buildings and herd management.
